It is getting close to the end of summer and as the weather cools down it is a great time to start thinking about winterizing your pool. If you have az pool service from a company in Arizona it is good to have them check your pool for “Total Dissolved Solids”. What that means is that the water in your pool may not be acceptable to chemicals anymore and you run the risk of having a non swimmable pool come next season. And the middle of the season is not a good time to realize that your pool water needs to be changed! Testing the water is easy, most pool supply stores will test your water for free. If the Total Dissolved Solids are ok, but it has been a couple of years since the water was change; it might be a good idea to go ahead and change the water. We use a company right here in Phoenix to change our water. Here is their information for you.
Here are some tips to changing the water yourself.
1. Make sure that the temperature is staying below 85 degrees. Good to wait for it to be below 85 for at least 3 days.
2. Contact Captain Clear to see what chemicals you should add when putting in the new water.
3. Turn off any automatic pump timers and autofills.
4. Make sure you have a place to drain the pool that is environmentally friendly.
5. Drain 2/3 of the pool using a sump pump, while brushing the sides of the pool as the level decreases. This will help cleans the walls of the pool for the new water coming in.
6. Draining the entire pool is dangerous. The water table around the pool can be high, and if you drain the entire pool the water around the pool can lift it out of the ground.
7. Refill the water while slowly adding the chemicals that Captain Clear provided.
8. Test the water, and if everything is good JUMP IN!
Hope that helps you with winterizing your pool.
